Meet Upward Health’s Newest Medical Directors

We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Sudha Dubey and Dr. Ashik Lawrence as our newest Medical Directors! Our Medical Directors mentor our providers to ensure high quality of care and play a direct role in treating our most complex patients. Learn more about their background and what drew them to Upward Health.

Dr. Sudha Dubey

Dr. Sudha Dubey joined Upward Health in May 2023 as the Medical Director for New York. Dr. Dubey is an internal medicine physician with expertise in adult primary care. Over the last fourteen years, she has worked with underserved populations at hospitals and outpatient clinics in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.

Dr. Dubey completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at Boston University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health degree at the University at Albany School of Public Health. She completed her residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

I have personally seen how ill-equipped our traditional healthcare system is to meet the needs of our most vulnerable and sick patients. I’m excited to join the team at Upward Health because we approach health differently – starting with assistance with basic social and psychological needs and then connecting patients to life-changing medical care that they can actually access.

Dr. Ashik Lawrence

Dr. Ashik Lawrence joined Upward Health in January 2023 as the Medical Director for Louisiana. Dr. Lawrence is a hospitalist who also has almost a decade of experience treating patients in urgent care settings.

Dr. Lawrence completed his Doctor of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at East Jefferson General Hospital in Louisiana.

As a hospitalist, I see firsthand the gaps in healthcare and the daily barriers patients face. Once discharged from the hospital, patients are often challenged with limited knowledge about their disease process and overwhelmed with the instructions and follow-up needs. At Upward Health, care is curated by a collaborative effort between medical providers, social workers, and behavioral health specialists. I am excited to help grow this culture.
